How to Change the Slack Channel for a Rotation's Reminders
Where the Channel Is Set
Each reminder has its own destination. Open the schedule's Reminders list to see every reminder spelled out, for example Send to #general when a shift begins; the channel in that line is what you're changing. If you're consolidating notifications into a shared #oncall channel, or the old channel was renamed or archived, update every reminder that still points at the old one.
Before You Start: Invite Tellspin to the New Channel
Tellspin can only post in channels it has been invited to; this is the most common reason a moved reminder goes quiet. In the new channel type @Tellspin and click Invite, or open the channel's details, choose the Integrations tab and add Tellspin under Apps. Tellspin will reply that no rotation schedule is set for the channel, which you can ignore. Private channels always need this step; see using Tellspin in private channels.
Changing a Reminder's Channel
- Open the Tellspin App Home in Slack, open the schedule's three-dot menu and click Edit.
- Click Edit Reminders.
- Find the reminder pointing at the old channel and click Edit.
- Under Select a channel (Invite @Tellspin to this channel), pick the new channel.
- Click Save.
- Back in the Reminders list, click Test Send on the reminder to post it immediately and confirm it lands in the new channel.
Repeat for any other reminders on the schedule, and for other schedules that post to the same channel.
Override Notifications Use Their Own Channel
If Tellspin also announces overrides in a channel, that channel is set separately: in the Edit modal, next to Send message about overrides, click Edit Message and pick the new channel there.
