How to Change the Slack Channel for a Rotation's Reminders

Locating Your Schedule's Reminders

If you need to change the destination channel for an on-call reminder—perhaps because a team's channel has been renamed, archived, or you want to consolidate notifications into a central #oncall channel—you can do so by editing the existing reminder.

All reminders are managed from the Tellspin App Home, listed under the schedule they belong to.

Steps to Edit an Existing Reminder

  1. Navigate to the Tellspin App Home in Slack.

  2. Find the schedule whose reminder you want to change.

  3. Under the schedule's details, you will see a list of its active Reminders.

  5. Select Edit from the dropdown menu.

Selecting the New Channel

In the Edit Reminder modal, you can change any of the reminder's settings.

  1. Locate the Send To section. It should be set to Channel.

  2. Click the dropdown menu that shows the current channel name.

  3. Search for and select the new channel where you want the reminder to be posted.

Saving and Verifying the Change

  1. After selecting the new channel, click the Save button.
  2. The reminder details in the App Home will update to show the new channel.
  3. To confirm the change, you can use the Test Send option from the reminder's three-dot menu (...). This will immediately post the reminder to the newly selected channel.

What if the New Channel is Private?

If the new channel you want to use is private, it will not appear in the dropdown list until you invite the Tellspin bot to it. Before editing the reminder, go to the private channel and type /invite @Tellspin.
