How to Edit an Existing On-Call Schedule

Who Can Edit a Schedule

You can edit a schedule if you created it, if you've been added as one of its Rotation Managers, or if you're a Slack Workspace Admin or Owner. See who can edit Tellspin schedules if the Edit button returns an error for you.

Opening the Edit View

  1. Open the Tellspin App Home in Slack.
  2. Find the schedule in the list (use the My Schedules or Search app view if you have many).
  3. Click Edit next to the schedule's handle.

The Edit modal exposes the same settings you chose when creating the schedule.

Adding or Removing Participants

Under Change User Mappings, click Edit Users to open the Select Users modal.

  • To add someone, click into the participant field, start typing their name, and select them.
  • To remove someone, click the x on their name.
  • To change how people are picked, use the User selection method dropdown: individual Tellspin users, a Slack User Group as the source of participants, Groups of multiple users for several people per shift, or Multiple user groups to rotate between whole teams.

Removing someone mid-rotation shifts everyone after them forward. Click Rotate Preview in the modal to line the preview up with the shift that is currently active before you save.

Changing the Rotation Frequency, Handoff Time, or Timezone

Under When do you want to rotate?:

  • Rotation frequency – Daily, Weekly, Two Weeks, Weekends Only, and other options.
  • Week start and Rotation hour – which day and time of day the handoff happens.
  • The schedule's timezone is shown beneath these settings; see how timezones work before changing it.
  • Customization (optional)Deactivate on weekends, Hide end times on shifts, whether participants may schedule their own overrides, and the reminder channel.

Delegating Edits with Rotation Managers

Add teammates to Rotation Managers so they can edit the schedule (and, for synced schedules, manage new PagerDuty, OpsGenie, or Datadog user mappings) without being Slack admins.

Saving Your Changes

Click Save. Changes apply immediately and the preview under the schedule in the App Home updates to reflect the new rotation. If you close the modal without saving, nothing changes.
