How to Configure a Weekdays-Only On-Call Rotation

Use Case: Business Hours On-Call

Many teams only require an on-call rotation during standard business hours, Monday through Friday. Tellspin allows you to create a schedule that automatically deactivates over the weekend, ensuring handoffs occur from Friday to the following Monday.

This is perfect for teams that have a separate weekend rotation or do not provide 24/7 coverage.

Steps to Create a Weekday Schedule

  1. From the Tellspin App Home, click Create Schedule.

  2. Fill in the basic details like Schedule Name and select your participants.

  3. In the Schedule section, set the Rotation frequency to Daily.

  4. Click the Advanced button to reveal more options.

  5. Under Days of the week, uncheck Saturday and Sunday, leaving only Monday through Friday selected.

Setting the Handoff Time

Set the Handoff time to when you want the daily rotation to occur. For example, setting it to 9:00 AM means the on-call person will change every weekday morning at 9:00 AM in the schedule's configured timezone.

Verifying the Schedule Preview

As you configure the schedule, the preview on the right side will update. For a weekdays-only schedule, you should see the rotation proceed normally from Monday to Friday, and then jump from Friday directly to the following Monday, skipping the weekend.

During Saturday and Sunday, the schedule will be inactive, and the user group will be empty (or disabled, as Slack does not permit empty user groups).

Combining with a Weekends-Only Schedule

For 24/7 coverage, you can create two separate schedules:

  1. A weekdays-only schedule for your primary team.
  2. A weekends-only schedule for your after-hours team.

You can then combine them into a single user group using Schedule Triage.
