Overview of Schedule Customization

Tellspin provides flexible scheduling options beyond simple daily or weekly rotations. You can configure schedules to run only on specific days of the week, like weekdays or weekends, or set up rotations that hand off every few hours. This guide will walk you through creating these advanced schedules.

How to Create a Weekdays-Only Schedule

To create a standard business-hours rotation that is inactive on weekends, use the built-in "Disable on weekends" option.

1. From the Tellspin App Home, click Create Schedule or click the three-dot menu (...) on an existing schedule and select Edit.
2. Set the Rotation Type to Daily.
3. Check the box next to Disable on weekends.
4. Set your desired Handoff Time.
5. Add your users and click Save.

How to Create a Weekends-Only Schedule

If you need a separate on-call rotation just for the weekend, you can use a custom schedule—or Weekends Only in the rotation frequency menu when your workspace shows it.

1. Open the schedule editor in the Tellspin App Home.
2. Set the Rotation Type to Custom, or choose Weekends Only from the rotation frequency menu when it is available:

   

3. If you used Custom, select only Saturday and Sunday in the day selection grid. (Skip this if you chose Weekends Only above.)
4. Set your rotation interval (e.g., rotate every 1 day) and Handoff Time.
5. Add your users and click Save.

Your schedule will now only be active on weekends. During the week, the associated user group will be disabled.

How to Set Up an Hourly Rotation

For teams that require multiple handoffs within a single day, you can set up an hourly rotation.

1. Open the schedule editor.
2. Set the Rotation Type to Hourly.
3. In the Rotate every field, enter the number of hours for each shift. For example, enter 12 for two shifts per day, or 8 for three shifts per day.
4. Set the Start Date and the time for the very first handoff.
5. Add your users in the order you want them to rotate and click Save.

Previewing Your Custom Schedule to Confirm

After saving your schedule, use the preview in the Tellspin App Home to confirm dates, times, and user order.

1. Open the Tellspin App Home and locate your schedule. For a weekends-only setup, you should see Disabled on weekdays and weekend shift ranges when applicable—for example:

   

Common Questions

What happens on days my schedule is disabled?

When a schedule is disabled (e.g., a weekdays-only schedule on a Saturday), Tellspin will disable the associated Slack user group. This means no one will be a member of the group, and it cannot be mentioned.

Can I combine a weekday and a weekend schedule?
