How to Change the Owner of Your Tellspin Subscription

Why You Might Need to Change Ownership

Access to the Stripe customer portal, where the card and billing details live, is tied to the Slack user who purchased Tellspin. If that person leaves the company or changes roles, ownership needs to move to someone else so the subscription can keep being managed.

Your schedules are not affected by who owns the subscription; they keep running during the transfer.

Who Can Open the Customer Portal Today?

  • The original purchaser.
  • Slack Workspace Admins and Owners. Since April 2025 admins can open the portal directly from the App Home, so if an admin is available you may not need a transfer at all.

Anyone with access opens it from the Tellspin App Home with the Manage subscription button:

If the button is missing for you, you don't currently have access.

How to Transfer Ownership

Changing the owner is handled by Tellspin support to protect your billing information.

  1. Decide who the new owner will be. They will manage the subscription and payment method going forward.
  2. Email support@tellspin.com with:
    • your Slack workspace name or ID,
    • the email address of the current owner (if known),
    • the Slack email address of the new owner.
  3. Support confirms the request and enables the customer portal for the new owner's Slack user. Support can enable it for more than one person if several people need to reach invoices.
  4. The new owner opens Manage subscription in the App Home to update the payment method if needed.

If the previous owner's invoices went unpaid and the service was turned off, pay the outstanding invoice from Manage subscription first, then click Upgrade in the App Home to restart the subscription.

Transferring Schedules at the Same Time

If the person leaving also created schedules, ask support to transfer those too. Schedules that rotate a Slack user group run under their creator's authorization, so the new owner should:

  • have permission to create and edit user groups in Slack (typically a Slack admin), and
  • click Add to Slack on tellspin.app to authorize Tellspin with their own account.

Support moves the schedules to the new owner and runs a sync. See who can edit Tellspin schedules for how schedule ownership works.
