How to Combine Multiple On-Call Teams with Schedule Triage
What is Schedule Triage?
Schedule Triage is a powerful feature that allows you to combine the on-call users from multiple Tellspin schedules into a single, unified Slack user group. This is ideal for creating a central point of contact that includes people from different teams or on-call tiers.
Common Use Cases
- Primary and Secondary: Combine a primary on-call schedule and a secondary on-call schedule into one
@support-oncallgroup. - Multi-Team Incidents: Merge the on-call schedules for
@backend-oncall,@frontend-oncall, and@infra-oncallinto a single@incident-responsegroup. - 24/7 Coverage: Combine a weekdays-only schedule and a weekends-only schedule to provide seamless coverage.
Prerequisite: Create Your Individual Team Schedules
Before you can create a triage schedule, you must first have the individual source schedules already set up in Tellspin. For example, if you want to combine your backend and frontend teams, you should already have a "Backend On-Call" schedule and a "Frontend On-Call" schedule created.
How to Create a New Triage Schedule
From the Tellspin App Home, click Create Schedule.
Give your new schedule a name (e.g., "Incident Response Triage").
For the Contact method, select User Group and provide a handle for the new unified group (e.g.,
incident-response).Under How are participants selected?, choose Schedule Triage.

How the Final User Group is Populated
Once saved, Tellspin will continuously monitor the source schedules. The user group for your triage schedule (@incident-response) will automatically be populated with all the users who are currently on-call across all the source schedules you selected.
If the on-call person changes in any of the source schedules, the triage group will update automatically.
